FOODSLUTEXPOSED

Fort Wayne Foodslut drinks local wine inside a Downtown Fort Wayne

Disclaimer:

Art is subjective and so are tastebuds.

We live in the Midwest where most people love Olive Garden and Applebees on a Friday night, I am just trying to help people locate a new local place to venture into.

Like your mother it’s all love one day, until you don’t act right in public, and I need to compare you to your alcoholic cousin.

In the mean time, I will dole out my love as I see fit.

If you don’t agree with these, nobody actually cares, make your own concept and compete, get real capitalist with it.

 -Respectfully, The Fort Wayne Foodslut

In the spring of 2022, I first communicated with Grayce from Icing for Izaac; something I had shared caught her attention. Soon after that, I started to browse her page. In the coming months, I shared a few things from her page with my followers on Instagram and made my first personal order. Eventually, I came to learn her story. Grayce was pregnant with twins when one of the twins tragically passed away. In her grief, she channeled her energy into what is today known as Icing for Izaac, named after her lost baby. For many women, suffering related to postpartum depression and grief is kept quiet; Grayce wishes to change this. She recounted to me a feeling of being alone and the pressure to keep it 'hush-hush", and if she could say one thing to other mothers and women struggling through a miscarriage, death of a child, and grief, it would be "YOU ARE NOT ALONE." I got chills when I learned from Grayce what her plan was for her own shop. I knew this was a need for all mothers.

Icing for Izaac is Grayce's words in action through a business that offers a safe place for mothers and children to escape into a confection-filled, soft, and light space that gently says, "YOU ARE NOT ALONE."

The original offering of custom cookies and cakes is still available, as they once were when Icing for Izaac was functioning out of Alto Grado Pizzeria on the Historic Landing, Downtown Fort Wayne. Grayce has expanded her stock to include cake slices, cookies, cheesecake cups, a fun beverage menu, and healthy lunch.

Her favorite menu during this interview was Brazilian lemonade, which she was preparing with fresh squeezed lime juice. Grayce takes pride in everything she has accomplished since moving to a full-time baker in 2019; she could have never imagined how much support her business would receive from the public and wishes she could tell herself to keep going and not to give up as it will all pay off. I find it incredible how a woman who worked as a server at a truck stop only five years ago has taken this astonishing trauma and turned it into a beautiful community to help support all women, in the process providing a top-notch product; for this reason, I have kept Icing for Izaac in my scope for businesses to watch in Fort Wayne.

If you have not visited Grayce's Boutique Bakery, please take the time and do so; located at

243 Airport North Office Park in Fort Wayne, Indiana

Hours can be found here.

My favorite 'Icing for Izaac' product, although I have been known to change my mind, is the cake slice in any flavor. Grayce has the cake we all need to try.

Tameka’s Cakes is run by a powerful multi-talented woman with the CAKE. The Cake purchased during her Cake Slice Friday event was more than two servings per order, with multiple flavors, filling, and frosting combinations. Rich, heavenly, and beyond compare. There is little that motivates me with a stronger drive to a business than a woman-run establishment, Tameka's Cakes has the product to guarantee a return.

My order:

  • Almond Ricotta Cake (with Key lime Frosting)

  • Raspberry Petit Four Flavored

How to order:

I recommend using the desktop site to purchase your order online while the mobile site is still an option.

One of my favorite places to create content with warm, low lighting and small intimate spaces, which help to develop film worthy mystique. Copper Spoon's entrance is unassuming, but when taken to your table, you may need to pause to take in the view. The bar is centered as the focal piece of the establishment, the reason becoming apparent later on. Copper Spoon's cocktail menu is what I would compare to a Bible; each drink is placed into a category, given an 'adventurous' rating, and described in great detail, all developed by Nationally recognized mixologist Trevor Scovel of BeBetter Hospitality. The dinner menu is not outshined by the bar, sourced from 9 plus local farms and producers; Nationally recognized Chef Aaron Butts orchestrates a memorable experience for guests. My experience at this restaurant has been nothing short of outstanding, and my standard order of Korean BBQ wings has broadened my respect for typical bar food like chicken wings.
